Blindness after laser surgery?

My father had laser surgery for glaucoma about a month ago. It was a very difficult surgery and the surgeon told him it was one of the worst he has seen. His vision was very blurry for a while after (much longer than his other eye which he had done the year before). Today I spoke with him and he told me that he completely lost his vision in his eye today, totally blind in that one eye.

Does anyone know about this – if there is anything that can be done – what we should do next?

Thanks
PS – My Dad did see his surgeon about a week ago and he said that he was OK – that was before the blindness. Part of the issue is my Dad is from that generation that just blindly (pardon the pun) follows what the dr’s say. I’m concerned that this doc isn’t the best, or perhaps could he have made a mistake that is causing this?
